"Ordinary Girl" is vocalist Alison Moyet's second single of 1987 from the album Raindancing.
The single failed to enter the UK top 40, peaking at #43 for a total of four weeks, the first single of Moyet's to fail the top 40 at the time. Moyet's previous single "Love Letters" peaked at #4 in the UK.[1]
A promotional video was created for the single as well as Moyet performing the song on ITV's short lived music show The Roxy and the "French & Saunders Show". The song was also performed on "Pop goes New Year 1987" aboard the HMS Royal ship. She performed two other songs on the ship, "Is This Love?" and "Blow Wind Blow", both from the same album.
"Ordinary Girl" was written by Moyet along with British musician Jess Bailey and Rick Driscoll.
The b-side for the single "Palm Of Your Hand (Cloak And Dagger)" was exclusive to the single, written and produced by Dan Hartman.
